The Sacramento Burger Battle is a charity burger cook-off and tasting event where 15 of the area's best restaurants cook up their top burger for an evening of burgers, beers, local wine, live music and prize drawings. Here's a fun video from Sacramento videographer, Nicholas Wray about last year's event: This blog post has an overview and some great photos that help to explain what you can expect on the night of the event.
The 2015 Sacramento Burger Battle is on Thursday, September 17, 2015. The inaugural Sacramento Burger Battle was held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Coincidentally, this also happens to be National Cheeseburger Day :)
VIP ticket holders get in at 6 p.m. and General Admission ticket holders get in at 7 p.m. We'll be serving up burgers and fun until 10 p.m. or until the food runs out.
This year's Sacramento Burger Battle will be held at Cesar Chavez Plaza in beautiful downtown Sacramento, CA.
This year's (2015) Sacramento Burger Battle will be an official event of the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. The first 2 Sacramento Burger Battle's were put on as a third party fundraiser for the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America by Rodney Blackwell, a long time Sacramento area resident who runs the burger review blog at burgerjunkies.com. All proceeds from the event have always been donated to the charity.
The General Admission ticket price is $55 for entry at 7 p.m. The VIP ticket price is $75 for early entry at 6 p.m. Tickets go on sale July 1st and during the Early Bird period, the a limited number of tickets will be specially priced at $10 off: $45 (GA) and $65 (VIP). Once those tickets sell out, we will have a limited number of $5 off tickets ($50 General Admission/$70 VIP) available. Once those sell out, the full price tickets will be released. This event is expected to sell out, so please get your tickets early :) We will not be selling tickets at the door.
Great question! The funds raised from the Sacramento Burger Battle will benefit the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. Our goal is to have the event costs (venue rental, insurance, etc) covered by the sponsors and in kind donations. That would leave all funds raised from the ticket sales to be donated to the charity following the event.
The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America is a non-profit organization that raises funds for much needed research to find a cure and patient programs that help those afflicted with this condition. Crohn's is an autoimmune disorder that affects the intestinal tract and prevents the body from absorbing important nutrients when food is consumed. More info can be found at ccfa.org. My oldest daughter (now 12) was diagnosed with Crohn's when she was 5 years old. Since I can't cure the disease myself, I figured I'd do what I can to help those that are trying. The goal of this event is twofold: to showcase the fantastic dining scene available in the Sacramento area and to raise awareness and much needed funding for a great cause.
Another great question! Once you buy your ticket, pretty much everything is covered. All the burger samples you can eat, drinks, live music, desserts, a souvenir glass and a chance to vote for your favorite burger. Even parking is covered for our VIP ticket holders. We may have t-shirts for sale and raffle tickets available for purchase, but if you just want to come and eat, drink and have a great time with your friends, your ticket price has you covered :)
Along with the complimentary craft beer, cider, and wine tastings available, we will also have water and other non-alcoholic soft drinks available at no extra charge.
Great question! Many of the chefs are still deciding on which of their burger creations to present at the Sacramento Burger Battle. But just going by the general nature of the event, I think it's safe to say that it will be a mostly beefy affair :)
You MUST be 21 years of age (or older) to attend the Sacramento Burger Battle. For insurance reasons and because this event includes beer and wine tasting, children and anyone under the age of 21 are not allowed at this event. ID's will be checked at the door.
The 2015 restaurant list will be announced soon :)
Another great question! The answer will vary depending on the restaurant. Since we have a panel of judges that will be sampling and rating each burger, if we had more than 15 restaurants, it would've been near impossible for them to try them all. It's important to understand that this is a charity tasting type event, so the restaurants that are participating have agreed to donate their time, talents and food to prepare hundreds of burgers so that we can create a fun event that allows 100% of the ticket proceeds to go to the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America charity. Some restaurants had prior commitments, some restaurants weren't interested in this type of event or were already supporting other events in the same month. We also had a call for entries open for a couple of months and it's possible that the restaurant didn't reach out to us in time. We contacted several restaurants directly and some didn't reply. Anytime you have to narrow a pool of literally dozens and dozens of top notch burgers in the Sacramento area down to 15, you're going to leave out somebody's favorite. We did our best to include as many top rated and local favorite burgers, chefs and restaurants into our event. Many of the participating restaurants will change each year, so hopefully your favorite burger place will decide to participate in the future :)
We only have 15 slots open for participation in this year's Sacramento Burger Battle. You are welcome to read about the event and fill out the application here.
